FAQ

About LingoVae

What does LingoVae actually do?

LingoVae uses AI to write Shopify product descriptions in a specific voice (or “style”). You pick from a catalog of pre-built voices, or you write your own on Pro. The styled descriptions get published to your storefront via Shopify metafields, while your original descriptions stay untouched.

Is this just ChatGPT in a wrapper?

No. LingoVae routes each generation to the most appropriate model and tier behind the scenes (we use OpenAI, Anthropic, and others), with prompts specifically tuned for product copywriting. We also handle the structural parts that matter for commerce: preserving image positions, keeping product attributes accurate, scoring drafts for quality, applying guardrails, and managing the workflow of review and publishing across thousands of products.

Do I need any technical setup?

No. Install the app, approve permissions, done. There’s no theme code to paste, no API keys to manage, no separate billing account.

Originals and reverting

Will LingoVae overwrite my original product descriptions?

No. Your original body_html field in Shopify stays exactly as you wrote it. Styled descriptions are stored separately, in Shopify metafields under the commstyles namespace. The storefront reads from the metafield when a style is active and falls back to the original when nothing is active or when you revert.

How do I revert a styled product back to the original?

Open the product in LingoVae and click Revert to original at the top of the review page. Your storefront switches to the original immediately. The styled draft isn’t deleted — you can re-publish it any time.

Can I roll back to a previous styled version, not just the original?

On Pro, yes — via version history. On Free, Starter, and Grow, you can only revert to the original.

What if I uninstall the app?

You’ll be asked to choose: keep your styled descriptions live (we retain your data so you can reinstall), or strip everything and revert to originals everywhere. Either way, your original Shopify descriptions are unaffected.

Plans and billing

How is LingoVae billed?

Through Shopify Managed Pricing. The subscription is a line item on your Shopify bill, charged in your store’s currency, with tax applied per your store address. You manage payment methods in Shopify Settings → Billing.

What’s the difference between Starter and Grow?

Starter removes the 10-product cap (you can style as many products as you want, one at a time). Grow adds bulk styling, the review queue, schedules, the full catalog of 17+ styles including premium ones, and auto-styling on new products.

If you have more than ~50 products you want to style, you’ll hit the limits of Starter quickly. Grow is built for catalog-scale work.

What’s the difference between Grow and Pro?

Grow gives you the full pre-built catalog and bulk workflow. Pro adds custom styles (write your own voice from scratch via the wizard), campaigns (route different styles to different traffic sources), and full version history with restore-to-any-version.

Pick Pro when you’ve outgrown the catalog voices, when you have meaningful paid-traffic differentiation to test, or when you have a team that needs version-history audit.

Can I switch plans anytime?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle (you keep the higher plan’s features until renewal). A pending downgrade can be cancelled with one click any time before it takes effect.

What if I downgrade and lose access to features I’m using?

Your work doesn’t disappear — it’s paused. Custom styles, schedules, campaigns, and styled products beyond your new plan’s allowance go dormant but stay in your account. Re-upgrade to the appropriate tier and everything reactivates.

What’s the annual discount?

About 12% off compared to paying monthly — roughly 1.5 months free. Switch to annual any time from the Plans page; the prorated credit applies immediately.

Is there a free trial of paid plans?

LingoVae starts on the Free plan; you can use it for as long as you want without entering payment info. There’s no separate “trial” — you upgrade when you’re ready and you can downgrade back to Free anytime (your work is preserved for 90 days).

If you want a trial on a specific paid feature for a specific reason, contact support.

Quotas and limits

How are transformations counted?

One transformation = one AI generation. If you generate four drafts at once with the multi-style picker, that’s four transformations. Edits you make in the rich-text editor are free; the AI isn’t called.

Custom style synthesis, confidence scoring, schedule/campaign evaluation, and catalog previews are all free. See transformations and add-ons for the full counting rules.

What happens when I run out?

Manual generation requests show a “Quota reached” error. Bulk jobs that need more transformations than you have remaining won’t start. You can buy an add-on pack right then to top up.

In-flight bulk jobs continue to completion — we don’t cancel a job mid-flight when you cross zero.

Do unused transformations roll over?

No. The counter resets at the start of each billing cycle.

Why does auto-styling stop at 80% of my quota?

To reserve headroom for manual work. A runaway product import (say, 5,000 SKUs from a PIM) could otherwise burn your whole month’s quota in an hour, leaving nothing for the products you actually want to focus on. See the 80% soft cap.

Styles

Can I use the same style on multiple products?

Yes. A style in your library can be applied to any number of products. The most common pattern is: pick a default style for your store, apply it to most products in bulk, and use other styles selectively for collections or seasons.

Can a single product have multiple styles?

Yes. You can generate drafts in many styles for the same product, all visible side-by-side on the per-product review page. Only one styled version is “live” on the storefront at a time — publishing a new style automatically supersedes the previous one for that product.

If you want different audiences to see different styles for the same product simultaneously, that’s what campaigns are for (Pro).

How many styles can I have in my library?

10 on every plan. If you’re grandfathered with more than 10, you keep them but can’t add more without replacing one.

Can I edit a style’s voice instructions?

The structured fields (length, must-mention, must-avoid, training examples, tone) are editable on every plan. The core voice instructions are editable on Pro and above; on lower plans you’re editing the knobs around the voice.

What happens to a style if a bulk job is using it?

It’s locked until the job finishes. This keeps the output consistent. Three escape hatches: wait, cancel the job, or duplicate the style and edit the duplicate.

Drafts and publishing

Does LingoVae publish drafts automatically?

Never. Every draft requires you to publish it. Even auto-styled drafts (Grow plan and higher) land in the review queue for you to publish.

What’s a “stale” draft?

A draft generated against an earlier version of your original product description, where you’ve since edited the original in Shopify. LingoVae flags it and asks whether to regenerate (free of stale-ness, costs one transformation), apply anyway, or skip.

What’s the difference between discarding and deleting a draft?

Discarding marks it discarded but keeps it on the per-product review page indefinitely for reference. There’s no “delete” — drafts persist as part of your audit trail. If you want them out of view, you can collapse the discarded drafts section.

Can I edit a draft before publishing?

Yes. The right column on the per-product review page is a rich-text editor with the same formatting controls Shopify offers. Edits autosave; click Publish when you’re satisfied.

How are product images handled?

Images embedded in your original description are preserved in their relative positions through the AI round-trip. The AI sees them as placeholders and writes around them. Image URLs come from Shopify; we don’t host any image storage.

Schedules and campaigns

What’s the difference?

Schedules are time-based (“use Holiday Warmth in December”). Campaigns are traffic-based (“visitors from Facebook see Conversion-Focused”). You can use them together.

Do schedules auto-publish?

Not in v1. Schedules generate drafts and put them in your review queue when they run; you publish them. We send an email reminder when a schedule runs. Auto-publish on schedule run is on the roadmap.

Do campaigns require theme changes?

The theme app extension installed during onboarding handles all the campaign routing at the storefront. No theme code changes needed.

Can I A/B test styles?

Yes, in two ways. For ad-hoc comparison, use the Compare tool on a single product. For ongoing A/B testing across traffic sources, use campaigns.

True statistical A/B testing with conversion attribution is on the roadmap (campaign analytics).

Security and privacy

Does LingoVae train on my data?

No. Your product copy, drafts, and edits are never used to train the AI models. The AI providers we use (OpenAI, Anthropic, others) are configured with data-processing terms that prohibit training on our customer data.

Where is my data stored?

In the region matching your store. EU stores have data stored in EU; US stores in US. Specifics are listed in Settings → Legal → Data residency.

Who can see my data?

You and any teammates you invite to your store. Internally, a small operations team has access for support and debugging purposes only, governed by signed agreements and an audit trail.

We never share or sell your data.

How do I delete all my data?

Settings → Legal → Request data deletion. We confirm via email; once you confirm, we purge within 30 days. This is irreversible.

You can also uninstall the app and choose to strip styled metafields from your store — this removes the public-facing artefacts but retains your library and history for 9+ months in case you reinstall.

Other

Can I use LingoVae on multiple stores?

Yes — install it on each store separately. Each store is billed independently. There’s no multi-store dashboard in v1, but it’s on the roadmap.

If you operate many stores (agencies, large brands), contact us — we may be able to help with multi-store coordination.

Can I export my styles?

Yes. Open any style and click Export as JSON. The JSON contains the style definition (instructions, guardrails, settings) without your private training examples.

Can I import styles from another store?

On Pro, yes — paste in a JSON style file from another store you own or that a contractor delivered.

Is there an API?

Not in v1. PIM integrations, webhook subscriptions, and direct API access are on the roadmap. If your workflow needs them, let us know what you’d build.

What if my question isn’t here?

Open the in-app support widget from Settings → Support. On Grow and above, we target 1-business-day response.
